Park Place Child Life Center Closing & ForKids to Continue Their Work
ForKids, a local nonprofit that has provided services to families experiencing homelessness for over 30 years, has accepted the assets of PPCLC and will incorporate its arts programming into the ForKids Education Program, serving at-risk children across Southeastern Virginia.
“ForKids looks forward to expanding the work of PPCLC to at-risk children across Hampton Roads”, said Thaler McCormick, ForKids Chief Executive Officer. “This is the perfect union of both organizations’ goals.”
Jennifer McDuffie, former PPCLC Program Director, has accepted the position of Art Education Advocate at ForKids and will lead the new art initiative. The program will operate weekdays as part of ForKids’ after school programs in Norfolk, Chesapeake and Suffolk, and as a Friday Art Elevates Class for interested students.

Who We Are
In 2004, a few people with a heart for helping children opened Park Place Child Life Center. Today, we have a track record of transforming the lives of Park Place children through arts-based programming designed to advance literacy and encourage a lifetime love of learning.
More than 600 children have taken part in the center’s after-school and Saturday programs. Each year some 200 volunteers donate 2,500 hours of service to advance the socio-emotional development of our students. We use the art making process to talk about "Big Ideas", perseverance, the creative process, and working toward excellence with quality exhibitions as our goal. We can be found at area festivals and events where we make connections with people in the community and create collaborative art projects to be engaged with by all!
"I think the staff and the spirit of the people is what brings me back. I love coming here. I love spending time with the kids."
